Lindau, Austria

The weather forecast for Monday was slightly worse than Sunday, so we went prepared. Our first visit of the day was to Lindau, about 45 minutes by boat from Bregenz, on Lake Constance, where we had stayed the night. We had a relaxing start with departure from the hotel scheduled for 9am. The bus dropped us near the railway station from where we were able to walk to the ferry terminal. We had noticed a number of photos at the hotel showing sets for operas on a stage floating on the lake. We were able to see this summer's set on our way to the ferry.

The boat was comfortable and not crowded but with heavy cloud, there wasn't a lot to photograph; we could see snow on the hills in the distance. This is the entrance to the port at Lindau, with the Bavarian lion.

After a short walk round to get our bearings, we spent the rest of the morning strolling around the town and taking photos.

After lunch, we had a guided tour of the town. Lindau is a well preserved, picturesque town. It caters for a local community, not just for tourists.

This is the Mairie which is being restored on one side

Also in the square is this fountain.

This is the Mangenturm, part of the medieval defences; we couldn't quit see why Rapunzel had let down her hair.

This is the diestrum, thieves tower.

This old church, very close to the tower is now a war memorial and records all those who died in both the first and second wars.

We then set out for our next hotel in Ehrwald, Austria, where we will spend 4 nights. We have a lovely room with a seating area, a balcony and great views of the mountains.
