On our way home

We left our hotel in Ehrwald, Austria, early on Friday and drove towards Innsbruck and then onto the motorway taking us to Italy via the Brenner
Pass.

The mountain scenery between Austria and Italy is just magnificent.

We stopped at Peschiera del Garda on Lake Garda for lunch: pasta, fish and a tart with plenty of soave to drink with it. It was great to have an Italian meal after five days of German and Austrian cuisine.

After lunch we had time for a walk along the river bank, sometimes in light rain

until we until we found a fortified village

and then on to the shore of Lake Garda.

We stayed the night at a hotel in Spinetta Marengo north of Genoa and east of Alba where we enjoyed another tasty Italian meal and wine.

Today, Saturday, we have travelled on southwards to the Mediterranean coast, then along the coast on the motorway, diving in and out of 235 tunnels through the mountains. We stopped at Nice for lunch just off the Promenade des Anglais.

As we entered France the cloud cleared and we now have blue skies as we drive through the Provençal countryside.

Tonight, we will eat in our local restaurant with friends Toni and Silvie and then start on the washing and packing for our next trip which will be on Friday to Birmingham to see Helen' s garden at the BBC Gardeners' World exhibition at the NEC.
